Kumar’s lab developed non-competitive receptor targeting carrier systems for oral drug delivery applications in human health and disease. Their rational design of biodegradable polyesters with tunable ligand-receptor stoichiometry has enabled the clinical translation of small molecule drugs with otherwise poor oral bioavailability. “I am confident that our technologies will not only facilitate drug repurposing, but also minimize attrition rates when applied early in drug discovery programs. The majority of human conditions remain safely, efficaciously, and economically managed with traditional pharmaceuticals, especially when novel formulations are considered. Small molecule drugs remain a central plank of academic-industry innovation and are here to stay.”
