Jonas Bostrom

Principal Scientist, AstraZeneca

  • Profile

Meet Jonas Bostrom

Passion
“I love combining new technology and science in innovative ways, with the grand purpose of treating diseases. I particularly like doing cool (and useful) stuff with computers – usually related to chemistry and/or life science. We’ve covered a very diverse range of research areas, from analysis of past and present synthetic methods, deriving matched-pair SAR methods, developing disruptive virtual screening capabilities, to the development of new virtual reality platforms for drug designers.”

Pivotal moment
“There are many – all connected to working closely with skilled colleagues. My nine month secondment to AstraZeneca Alderley Park back in 2002-2003, which at the time must have had the best computational chemistry group ever, was truly awesome.”

Predictions
“Things are changing fast now, and a lot will be different in five years. We’ve got artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented realities, and cloud-based technologies already on the verge of being impactful. I think the biggest difference will be the tremendous improvements in speed – enabling new science and new ways of working.”
