Pharma’s reputation strikes again. A new Netflix comedy series is set to debut featuring “two strangers [who] find themselves caught up in a mind-bending pharmaceutical trial gone awry.” Let’s be honest, a fictional series is unlikely to capture the realities of clinical trials or the pharma industry, but the trailer has caused quite a stir in the entertainment world.

What?

Maniac tells the story of two patients in a clinical trial for Neverdine Pharmaceutical and Biotech’s new drug that can “repair anything about the mind, be it mental illness or heartbreak.” Of course, the trial does not go to plan and the patients experience fever-like images and dreams. The story is based on a Norwegian television series created by Hakon Bast Mossige and Espen PA Lervaag.

Who?

The miniseries has been created by Patrick Somerville and directed by Cary Fukunaga. It stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill.

When?

The show will premiere globally on Netflix on September 21.
